This resort has three eighteen hole courses, each named after the golf legend who designed it (Byrd, Jones and Maples), and has hosted the PGA Tour's Carolina Open and the Carolina Pro Am. The Sea Trail Plantation & Golf Resort Maples Course was designed by Dan Maples and inaugurated in 1985.

The greens are Bent Grass and the fairways are Bermuda Grass. The broad, wide open, flat fairways open to generous greens, offering just the slightest bit of undulation and the occasional subtle break.

The signature hole is 7, a 410-yard, par 4, which is a magnificent course that calls for some nice strong shots over water. Golf Digest Magazine named the Maples Course as one of the best new resort courses in the country.
